What No One Tells You About Manufacturing

What No One Tells You About Manufacturing

3 Realities You Should Know

You're just launching a new collection or starting your own clothing brand?
To help you avoid unexpected delays, costs, or confusion, here are three things no one tells you about manufacturing – but every brand should know.

____________________________________________________________________________

1. Your Production Process Can Get Stuck – Easily

Why?
Because details matter. One of the most common reasons why production doesn’t move forward as planned is missing or unclear information. A lack of detailed tech packs, inaccurate measurements, or vague design requests can lead to a sample that doesn’t meet your expectations. That means further revisions are needed – and more sample rounds.

👉 Each revision takes time. This can delay your bulk production and push your launch date back. That’s why investing in a precise and complete tech pack from the start saves time (and money!) in the long run.

2. Slight Overproduction Is Standard

It might sound strange, but you often won’t receive the exact number of pieces you ordered – and that’s a good thing. Why? Because overproduction helps reduce waste and maintain quality.

Some garments don’t pass quality checks due to minor issues with prints, stitching, or washing. To avoid under-delivering, manufacturers often produce slightly more than ordered. At the same time, this ensures that all fabric and cut materials are used efficiently, reducing waste and avoiding leftover materials.

Bottom line: Overproduction isn’t a mistake – it’s an industry norm to balance out production risks and reduce fabric waste.

3. There Is a Tolerance for Size Deviations

Many people expect every product to be exactly the same, down to the last millimeter – but that’s not how manufacturing works. Especially in handmade garments, small variations in measurements are completely normal.

There’s an industry-accepted tolerance range of about 0.5 to 1.5 cm, especially in samples. This doesn’t mean your product is faulty – it simply reflects the nature of textile production and the materials used.

✅ Being aware of this helps set the right expectations and avoid unnecessary concerns about sizing.

Final Thoughts

Understanding the less-talked-about realities of manufacturing helps you become a better-prepared brand owner. Clear communication, flexibility, and awareness of standard processes can make your production journey smoother and more successful.
